What To Expect
I am very much looking forward to being back on Cloughan Farm for my Grow Your Own workshop hosted by Fiona Egan.
Through these workshops I’ve learnt there are a lot of people with their own polytunnel or greenhouse eager to fill them with crops so they can enjoy their own homegrown food.
This workshop will focus primarily on growing crops in a polytunnel or greenhouse. Summer-loving crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers need a sheltered and warm space to be productive in this country. It can also be utilised during the colder months to extend the growing season.
So, whether you already have a polytunnel or greenhouse, or you’re interested in learning more about growing under cover, this workshop covers all you need to know.

What You’ll Learn
- How to plan your growing space for the year
- Planting techniques and supports for summer crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers
- Pest and disease troubleshooting, plus organic prevention and treatment
- How to create a productive autumn and winter polytunnel
- Sowings that you will take home
This will be an enjoyable day for gardening enthusiasts who want to learn about growing undercover, share information and enjoy great food and company.
I always look forward to these workshops as I get to reconnect with returning gardeners and meet new people. It is such a great way to share knowledge and enjoy homegrown food together.
What to Bring
- Warm clothing
- Gardening gloves (optional)
- Notepad and pen (optional)
Disposable gloves will be available on the day.

The Cloughan Farm Cookery School with Fiona was a dream come true! I took her cooking class as part of a group trip and I was so glad to be able to have this experience. What a gift to be able to cook delicious food and tour the farm to see exactly where each ingredient came from. Fiona made all of us feel like we were right at home and I really can’t recommend this experience enough. My dream scenario would be to live on her farm and cook in her school full time!!

What Fiona and her husband have created is spectacular. I was there with a group of discerning ladies who know quality produce and cooking, and we are all still raving about the place. I look forward to going back again. Fiona herself is an amazing lady and a hard worker who deserves every success. Great to have a gem like this on the borders of Longford-Westmeath

What a gem. Thanks to a group of Ukrainian women I have had a great night.
Went to Fiona’s cookery school and had a wonderful time watching and learning how to cook better. Fiona and her husband Michael were wonderful hosts and gave plenty of time for the lessons to be translated so the Ukrainian women could understand. The best part of the night was when we got to eat the food Fiona cooked and some delightful treats the Ukrainian women had made earlierJames Kiernan – Google Review

This cookery experience was SO FUN!!!!! Six longtime friends created some amazing memories with Fiona, Michael and Lena at Cloughan Farm and Cookery School. Our husbands were a bit skeptical but it didn’t take long for them to get onboard and realize everyone’s participation in creating a meal of beef and Guinness stew, Granny’s brown bread, riced potatoes and summer berry meringue Roulade could be so FABULOUS. What genuinely warm and hospitable friends we made that day!!
